Fair Labor Standards Act

           
         The minimum wage and overtime pay requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) are among the nation's most important worker protections.  The FLSA provides exemptions from the minimum wage and overtime requirements for employees employed in a bone fide executive, administrative, or professional capacity or in the capacity of outside salesman.

 
         From time to time, companies of all sizes improperly classify employees as exempt employees or simply fail to properly pay overtime.  The FLSA also provides protection for employees who complain to (or question) their employer about an entitlement to overtime compensation.

         The FLSA is not the only law that provides protection to employees regarding compensation.  Some other laws include state wage and collection laws, as well as the Employment Retirement Security Income Act (ERISA), also provide various protections.
